Many women gain weight when they get pregnant. For most, once they have already given birth, they instantly look up on how they would be able to get those extra pounds out of their body. The thing is, no one gets back to their pre-pregnancy figure in just a blink of an eye and it is also the case for famous personalities or even celebrities. It takes some time and it definitely takes some effort.

They say that when you gained 25 to 30 pounds from your normal weight, it will be relatively easy for you to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight and it will take you only two to three months to do so. It is important that you get rid of those extra pounds you gained during pregnancy because, according to Debra Krummel, an endowed professor in the University of Cincinnati Department of Nutrition, “It’s very critical that you do get the weight off, because if you don’t it has been associated with overweight and obesity 15 to 20 years later in life,”.

Do not get discouraged if you see your favorite celebrities look like they did not give birth just two weeks after they got out of the hospital. Chances are, they immediately went to extreme diets and workouts thus losing weight very quickly. First off, that is discouraged because it is not healthy and second, it is not good for the body. You need not to rush into losing those pounds. You just gave birth!

Before you start your journey towards getting back into shape, you have to give your body its needed rest. You have just given birth that is why there are parts of your body that has changed. It is important to note to that you should not start your weight loss journey immediately. Give your body a bit if a rest first. That way, you help your body recuperate fast.

Once you are entirely ready, here are some of the simple things you can do to lose weight after pregnancy without really adding much into your routine:


Breastfeeding burns around 600 to 800 calories per day which is why even if you are seated comfortably, you are actually burning a lot of calories already. Some even say that a lot of women can already lose weight over the months just by breastfeeding alone. However, when the time comes that you will have to incorporate solid foods for your baby, calorie burning through breastfeeding will slow down which means, you need to be active in order to continue to lose some pounds.

Eat healthyfiber rich drinks

You should not starve yourself as you need to stay healthy and fit for your little one. Go for foods that have high nutritional content. Fiber rich foods and foods with complex carbohydrates are always the go to food. They are filling, nutritious, delicious and are not fatty and sugar-filled.

Go for everyday walks with your little one in the stroller

If you can do an hour of walking in the morning and then another in the afternoon, then it is most ideal but of course, do your walking in the number of minutes you are comfortable of. This can be your cardio workout which is a good way of losing weight. Aside from that, you are giving your little one a good amount of sunlight and a tremendous amount of fresh air.

Do some lifting or weight training

If you have dumbbells, then you can use that for some simple lifting and you can also hold those dumbbells when you do even simple things like shadow boxing or other simple exercises so that burning of calories will become faster and that would also help in speeding up your metabolism. If you don’t have dumbbells, you can do some exercises while your baby is in your arm. You can do exercises like lunges or you can also lie on your back, hold your baby near your chest and then push her upwards and then back and do it several times.

Dear mommies, getting rid of the extra pounds you packed when you got pregnant is very possible. You do not have instantly dive into getting rid of them as soon as you got out of the hospital by doing extreme diets and exercise. A slow and healthy way is always best and still very effective.
